"Astra" Border Collies
Border Collies are just that, a breed.
They are not sheepdogs until they have been trained to WORK sheep or other livestock.
Our Border Collies have been bred for generations specifically for their supreme intelligence, trainability and outstanding excellence in all disciplines including Herding, Agility, Search and Rescue, Working Trials, Heel Work to Music, Flyball, or just as a walking companion and pet.
Regardless, health issues are very important to us and we have innitiated an intensive dna (for CEA) and hip scoring regime, and will soon be including DNA testing for CL and CN
WE have developed this site not only to showcase our dogs but to gather information from our "Astra" puppy owners about our dogs character, temperament, health, longevity, likes and dislikes etc. visit ..................... for more information.

The "ASTRA" prefix came about because of our family moto which is "Per Ardua, Ad Astra" which means - "By work to the Stars"
Well, our Border Collies have the instinct and will to work, and by work they train themselves with a little help and direction from us

"Astra" Shepherding Centre
We are here to help
Shepherds, Farmers, Dog Owners, Dog Enthusiasts, Sheepdog Trial Handlers, etc.
and
Border Collies, Australian Kelpie, Bearded Collie, Australian Shepherd, and other herding breeds etc.
- We train our own "Astra" prefixed Border Collies to work on farms and compete at sheepdog trials.
- We offer a service to search for suitable Trained Working Sheepdogs
- We hold and organise - tailor made -Sheepdog and Handler training Clinics/Seminars.
- We school the above breeds to work Sheep, Cattle, Ducks and other livestock that flock together.
- We also offer Training holidays for you and your dog/s
- Help with rehabilitation of the working dog especially with the Border Collie.

"Astra" White Dorper Sheep
The White Dorper and Dorper Sheep is a new breed in Great Britain.
Originally developed in South Africa it has very quickly spread world wide to all continents making their mark in the USA, Mexico, New Zealand, Australia, Germany and China.
Every spring they shed their wool so require little maintenance for flystrike, they rarely become cast (stuck on their backs). They are easy lambing, great milkers, and very adaptible to many climatic conditions. The Dorper combine a very good carcass with a unique flavour and texture making them desirable to the elite markets.
The Dorper have the potential to become a leading sheep breed within the UK and Europe.
